Academics

Direct Instruction serves as the backbone of academic programming at the Autism Model School.

And students are making amazing progress!

So much so that the school’s innovative use of DI was the topic of a published research article.

Courses include language and communication, decoding, reading comprehension, writing, spelling, and math concepts. Read here for more DI details

Here’s a sample of some of our other academic programs, including computer-based applications:

  • Headsprout Reading – an early reading program which takes non-readers to a 2nd grade reading level
  • TeachTown Basics – an application targeting learning domains such as language arts, math, and social skills
  • Edmentum – a standards-based online program for a range of core subjects and electives, such as AI, creative writing, and environmental science
  • CS Promise – a program providing eligible students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to take one computer course per year that is not offered here at the school (learn more)

Each student’s academic achievement is measured against their own set of learning goals. These objectives are detailed in an individualized learning plan.

Most students who access programming like DI also take the MAP Growth Assessment once per year. This test, which is approved by the state of Ohio, measures a student’s progress over time.

Students are tested in Reading, Math, and Language. The results have been stellar!
