It’s been eventful! Check out our top 5 stories from the past year…
5. Marathon Classic’s New Record
The school was honored to be one of several charity partners for the 2021 LPGA Marathon Classic Presented by Dana golf tournament which took place in July.
Although rain washed away the final round of golf, the tournament still raised over $815,000 for 29 Northwest Ohio charities (a new record by the way)! Including a $9,000 donation to the Autism Model School.
4. Drive-Thru Grads Roll In
The Class of 2021 was honored with a drive-thru graduation ceremony in June.
The sunny weather was a welcome sight as we celebrated the accomplishments of 5 graduates who are now Stars-for-Life! Fun fact: 75 students & counting have graduated from AMS.
3. Navigating Obstacles with Agility Angels
The school partnered with Agility Angels for an exciting summer program. Camp Agility introduced dozens of students to some amazing dogs.
With help from Agility Angels volunteers students learned how to direct dogs through an obstacle course. Along the way they made new friendships, gained skills & built confidence.
2. Back to the Building
Due to the ongoing health crisis, we started the year with online-only classes. We switched to a hybrid schedule in March which combined virtual and in-person learning.
On September 7th students returned to a full in-person learning schedule!
1. Cheers to New Adventures
The biggest story of the year for AMS was the retirement of Mary Walters, one of nine founding parents of our program who served as director for more than 22 years!
After wishing Mary well on her new adventure we welcomed Joel Vidovic as the next director of the Autism Model School.
BONUS STORY: The Graph Gets a New Look
The school’s graph logo, which symbolizes our focus on providing evidence-based life-changing programs, got a refresh in 2021.
There is something a bit mysterious about the new logo…can you see it?
